Urban Ed Academy

In San Francisco, Urban Ed Academy is a nonprofit community organization focused on expanding students' access to Black male educators. Its Man the Bay educator fellowship recruits and prepares educators, then provides coaching, professional development, housing, and ongoing support throughout a four-year program. Workforce housing places educators in the communities where they teach and includes financial support for local Black property owners. The organization also offers evidence-based learning opportunities for students and holds annual community events that connect and celebrate Black educators, entrepreneurs, and other community members. Its stated goal is for every San Francisco and Oakland student to learn from a Black male educator before graduating high school. Urban Ed Academy announced that it would sunset operations on July 1, 2025.
