Balboa Art Conservation Center

Founded in 1975, Balboa Art Conservation Center provides conservation and preservation services for works of art, cultural objects, and historic artifacts. Its conservators use scientific methods to examine and treat cultural heritage objects. The nonprofit is located in Balboa Park in San Diego. It also offers collections care training for small and midsized collections, including in-person and virtual sessions through the California Inclusive Preservation Program. Education is part of its work. Digital resources, events, and conversations explore conservation practices and culturally responsive approaches to preserving community collections, including Chicana/o/x art. The center partners with stewards of cultural collections and supports training opportunities. Its programs share knowledge about materials, deterioration, and responsible care for cultural heritage.
