Shofuso is a Japanese house and garden museum. Built in Japan in 1953 using traditional techniques and materials, the house was designed by architect Junzo Yoshimura and moved to West Fairmount Park in 1958. Inside, 20 contemporary murals by artist Hiroshi Senju are permanently displayed. The grounds include a hill and pond garden with a tiered waterfall, island, and koi fish, as well as a tea garden with a traditional tea house and a courtyard garden leading to a bathhouse. Visitors can book group tours and photography or wedding rentals. Shofuso also hosts cultural programs and events connected with Japanese arts and culture in Philadelphia, including the Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival, lectures, and workshops.
