Aztlán is an interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed journal featuring original research relevant to or informed by the Chicano experience. It is one part of the UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center, founded in 1969 to advance scholarly research on the US Chicano-Latina/o/x population. The center is one of four historic ethnic studies research centers within the UCLA Institute of American Cultures. Its work includes publishing research, hosting events such as book talks, and sharing news and reports on topics including labor and civic engagement. The center also supports youth research activities through programs such as the California Freedom Summer Participatory Action Research Project, which includes a summer internship. Its scholarship spans the humanities, social sciences, and arts, and brings Chicano studies into dialogue with other fields.
