InsideOUT Writers

Based in Los Angeles, InsideOUT Writers is a nonprofit community services organization supporting at-risk, currently and formerly incarcerated, and foster youth and young adults. Its programs use creative writing classes as a catalyst for personal transformation, including weekly classes in LA probation juvenile halls and camps. The organization also provides holistic case management and re-entry support for members and alumni. Services include mental health and counseling referrals, mentorship, access to health and dental care, housing support, job placement, internships, substance abuse treatment, community events, field trips, and weekly writing circles. Alumni Program staff help participants build resumes, practice interview skills, find job leads, submit applications, and receive support after employment. InsideOUT Writers continues serving alumni without charging for its services.
