Asian Youth Services

After-school tutoring and mentoring support youth in Chicago's Albany Park neighborhood. Asian Youth Services provides educational experiences and long-term mentoring relationships for children and young people, with an emphasis on helping students succeed in school and navigate challenges affecting low-income urban youth. The program was founded to serve Southeast Asian refugee families and now primarily supports children from second-generation Southeast Asian refugee and first-generation Hispanic immigrant families, while welcoming any youth in need. Its integrated support system addresses academic needs and related challenges, including low reading levels, school dropout risk, violence, gangs, drugs, teen pregnancy, and food insecurity. The organization has served more than 300 students since its founding in 1992.
