Founded in 1919 by World War I veterans working in the motion picture industry, Hollywood American Legion Post 43 is part of the American Legion, a wartime veterans organization serving veterans, youth, and the community. Based in Los Angeles, Post 43 has nearly 1,200 Legion Family members, including veterans, Sons of the Legion, and Auxiliary members. Its Hollywood clubhouse opened on Highland Avenue on July 4, 1929, and includes an Art Deco Bar, Cabaret Room banquet hall, and film and digital cinema theater. The private club provides members with a place to congregate, network, and relax, while also serving as a civic center and event venue. Membership is available to eligible wartime veterans, with related options for qualifying family members.
