About International Traditional Karate Association
Established in 1976, ITKA Karate is a traditional Chicago dojo founded at the University of Illinois at Chicago by Kancho M. Bambouyani, 9th Dan. The school teaches Shotokan Karate and offers training programs for children ages 5-12, teens and adults ages 13 and older, families, and seniors. Self-defense training is also available. Classes focus on discipline, confidence, leadership, and respect within a safe, traditional dojo setting. Sensei Bambouyani teaches in Chicago and internationally, including in Japan and Okinawa. New students can choose a trial class, and the dojo hosts events such as the 2026 ITKA Friendship Tournament.
