Play-based learning shapes Brooklyn Free Space, a cooperative preschool serving children ages 2 to 5. For more than 40 years, the school has used a Reggio Emilia-inspired approach focused on children's curiosity, exploration, relationships, and creative expression. BFS operates five classrooms, including groups for 2-year-olds, 3-year-olds, older 3s, and Pre-K 4s. Children investigate, create, solve problems, spend time outdoors, and build independence through daily play and hands-on experiences. Families participate actively in the cooperative community alongside educators and administrators. The school also collaborates with families, therapists, special education professionals, and outside providers to support children receiving Early Intervention, CPSE, IEP, or other services.
