About Council of the Great City Schools
The Council brings together 81 of the nation's largest urban public school systems. Its members work to improve education for children in inner cities and help students meet high academic standards. The Council informs lawmakers, media, and the public about progress and challenges in big-city schools through legislation, communications, research, and technical assistance. Its work also includes programs to strengthen academic performance, narrow achievement gaps, support professional development, and improve district leadership, governance, and management. School district personnel connect through the organization to share work across urban systems with similar conditions. The Council is based in Washington, DC.
