Financial Assistance
Support with finances, public services, and urgent household needs.
Emergency assistance began in 1997, when local churches founded Germantown Avenue Crisis Ministry to serve residents of Northwest Philadelphia. Today, GACM provides resources and support for people navigating financial, energy, food, and housing challenges. The ministry helps renters and homeowners stay safely housed, manage finances, navigate public services, address rent shortfalls, and obtain food assistance. It also supports planning for a stable, sustainable future. GACM serves vulnerable residents through two social workers, an administrative assistant, and regular volunteers, with additional volunteer support during holidays and special activities. Donations help meet urgent needs for families, while volunteers provide direct assistance to neighbors facing difficult circumstances. The organization describes itself as a community support resource operated for neighbors by neighbors.
