Founded in 1958
Started as a community mental health program in Jefferson County.
Founded in 1958, Bridgehaven began as a community program supporting people transitioning from mental hospitals to participation in community life. Today, it provides community-based psychiatric rehabilitation and recovery services for adults living with mental illness. Programs include psychiatric rehabilitation, the Center for Peer Excellence, and IPS Supported Employment Services. Bridgehaven also offers education and support. Services are based in Louisville and focus on helping members build recovery and participate in their communities. The organization grew from a 1955-56 study of mental health needs in Kentucky by the Louisville Section of the National Council of Jewish Women, which identified a need for community programs outside hospital settings.
