About Urban Enrichment Institute
Its STEM Enrichment Program gives young men opportunities for hands-on learning. The Urban Enrichment Institute serves economically distressed neighborhoods in Houston, including the historic Fifth Ward, through youth development programs for middle and high school students. Its offerings include graphic arts, photography and film, music production, and college and career readiness. UEI also focuses on academic support, leadership training, career readiness, and life skills development. Partnerships with schools, community organizations, corporate sponsors, and universities support workshops and learning opportunities, including robotics, coding, agriculture, and workforce readiness. Founded over 40 years ago, the institute has expanded to serve multiple school districts and communities. Its programs are designed to address challenges such as school dropout, gang violence, drug abuse, teen pregnancy, and crime while supporting young men's development.
