The Housing Choice Voucher Program provides safe, affordable housing opportunities. Panhandle Community Services is a nonprofit, community-based organization serving residents across the top 26 counties of the Texas Panhandle. Its programs address poverty-related needs and support individuals and families working toward stability and self-sufficiency. Services include family development, housing assistance, public transportation, utility assistance, and mental health resources. The organization also offers weatherization, veterans assistance, free basic tax return preparation for qualified individuals through VITA, and a poverty simulation. Utility assistance includes energy-efficiency education and funds to help limit or stop utility disconnections. Weatherization can include repairs to heating and cooling units, window and door insulation, and other energy-reduction measures. Panhandle Community Services also partners with community volunteers.
