Public garden
Free to visit daily from dawn to dusk.
Visitors can explore a free, public garden on Belle Isle, with paths through four areas: the Main Garden, Rain Garden, Native Meadows, and Bird Border. The three-acre garden sits around the Nancy Brown Peace Carillon and is open daily from dawn to dusk. It is designed by Dutch garden designer Piet Oudolf, with perennials, grasses, shrubs, and trees selected for changing textures and colors throughout the seasons. Its naturalistic planting supports enjoyment by people and wildlife. The garden is maintained by an all-volunteer grounds crew. Oudolf Garden Detroit is located on Belle Isle, a Michigan state park in the Detroit River. Visitors are asked to stay on paths and grassy areas, avoid picking flowers, and leave no trace.
