Members connect with residents through events and beautification proje
This is a community safety program. AmeriCorps Urban Safety, based at Wayne State University's Center for Urban Studies, works to promote public health and safety in Detroit. Members engage residents through safety events, beautification projects, and school safe route signage. The program also supports neighborhood guardianship by securing vacant homes, cleaning vacant lots, organizing bike watches and peace walks, and helping create block clubs and community patrols. Crime prevention activities include educational leaflets, vehicle VIN etching, and home safety assessments. AMUS works with residents to build neighborhood connections and develop safety strategies. Its initiatives also include vacant property safety assessments and distributing water filters. The program serves targeted neighborhoods in Detroit and Wayne County.
