About Chicago Poetry Center
Based in Chicago, the Chicago Poetry Center is a poetry organization connecting people with poetry on the page, onstage, and in classrooms. Its programs include school residencies, poetry workshops, assemblies, and video lessons for students. Public programming includes readings and performance events, as well as a free monthly in-person reading series with a generative writing workshop at Haymarket House. The center also hosts conversations that use poetry as a springboard for exploring race and supports poets through writing and spoken word platforms. Its shop offers poetry-related gifts, including broadsides and vintage posters. Programs reach Chicago Public School students and participants beyond the city. The organization has served as a home for poetry in Chicago since 1974.
