Founded in 1975
Started with neighbors supporting people displaced by a fire.
In 1975, neighbors came together to help 18 people displaced by a fire on Powers Street. That effort grew into St. Nicks Alliance, a community organization providing services across Brooklyn. Its elder care programs help seniors remain active and include home care, assisted living for Medicaid, activities at senior centers, hot meals, and transportation for people with limited mobility. The organization also provides affordable housing, workforce development, tenant advocacy, child care, after-school and summer programs, and other social services. Its youth and education programs serve children ages 2 to 24, while workforce programs support job skills, education, and career pathways. St. Nicks Alliance entered its 51st year of serving the community in 2026.
