Affordable Homeownership
Offers affordable mortgages to eligible partner families.
In Boston, Habitat for Humanity Greater Boston is a nonprofit housing organization serving the city and 25 surrounding municipalities. Since 1987, it has built more than 120 homes and provides housing solutions for individuals and families with low-to-moderate incomes. Its homeownership program pairs eligible partner families with volunteers to build affordable, environmentally sustainable homes. Families contribute 200 hours of sweat equity and receive an affordable mortgage structured so housing costs do not exceed 30% of gross income. Current and upcoming builds include Malden, Weston, Roslindale, and Dorchester. The organization also operates a ReStore and accepts donations, while its coverage area includes communities such as Cambridge, Chelsea, Somerville, Waltham, and Woburn.
