Historical fencing
Studies European martial arts from historical treatises.
Based in Boston, Boston Armizare is a historical fencing club that studies and practices Late Medieval and Renaissance combat arts. Its work draws on historical fencing treatises, with a focus on the development of the Italian fencing tradition. The core curriculum covers longsword and rapier. Training brings historical sources into modern combat sport practice, using research, translation, reconstruction, and interpretation of the texts. No prior experience is required to join. The club runs a quarterly admission process, with new students working with coaches on Mondays or Wednesdays during a selected month; prospective students arrange a first practice by email. Boston Armizare has operated independently since 2014 and has practiced at Boston Fencing Club in Brighton since 2017. Visiting scholars from other programs are welcome.
