Organized in 1943 as a volunteer fire department, Davis Corner Volunteer Rescue Squad now provides emergency medical care through its ambulance service. It is chartered in Virginia as Davis Corner Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, Inc., and is also known as Davis Corner Rescue Squad or Rescue 2. The squad primarily serves Town Center, Haygood, Aragona, Lake Smith, Thoroughgood, and Wesleyan in Virginia Beach, while responding to calls throughout the city. Care is provided at no cost to patients, with support from public donations, the City of Virginia Beach, grants, and volunteer members. The organization is part of Virginia Beach's volunteer-based EMS system.
