The department serves the area with full-time firefighters and paramedics, part-time chiefs, and volunteer firefighters, EMTs, and paramedics. Community programs include CPR classes held throughout the year in collaboration with the American Heart Association. Each October, its Fire Safety and Prevention Program visits local elementary schools. The department also provides smoke detectors to the public at no charge. On Halloween, its Goblin Patrol helps keep trick-or-treaters safe, and each holiday season Santa greets the community aboard a fire truck. William Spicer Station is located at 398 West 700 North in Valparaiso, Indiana.
