Electrical apprenticeship
Four-year program with classroom instruction and field training.
In Tucson, the Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Program provides electrical apprenticeship education and related training. Its four-year apprenticeship combines classroom instruction with 8,000 hours of on-the-job training, where apprentices spend about 80% of the program in the field learning from journeyworkers. Classroom lessons cover electrical theory and connect it with work experiences. The program also offers journeyman upgrade classes, supervision training, OSHA 10, MSHA, and CPR and First Aid. Instruction is delivered by classroom educators, many of whom are electricians working in the field. The program is sponsored by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the National Electrical Contractors Association. It prepares participants for careers as electricians through classroom and field-based learning.
