Aikido classes
Traditional aikido classes meet three times weekly.
In Tucson, Aikido Shoubu Dojo is a martial arts dojo teaching traditional aikido in an authentically Shinto-enshrined setting. Aikido classes meet Monday and Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings. The practice includes joint locks, throws, pins, and defensive techniques, with an emphasis on controlling an opponent and adjusting force to the situation. Saturday mornings also include a knife fighting class, where students practice knife use and defenses such as armed disarms, joint locks, and non-deadly force techniques. The dojo describes aikido as a Japanese martial art drawing on samurai hand-to-hand combat and sword movement, with Shinto, Buddhist, and Taoist elements in its philosophy and practice. Visitors are welcome to observe or try a class.
