Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission-approved courses prepare participants for the Authorized Gopher Tortoise Agent permit. Wildlands Conservation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit land trust and conservation organization focused on conserving and managing wildlands. Its work includes helping landowners explore options for preserving land, holding conservation easements, and monitoring and reporting on easements. The organization conducts research on listed species, native wildlife communities, and habitat management. It also carries out prescribed burns, exotic species treatment, and native restoration plantings on public and private conservation lands across Florida and the Southeast. Education and outreach include professional training and an internship program with hands-on conservation biology experience. Wildlands Conservation evolved from PEER, Inc., founded in 2003, and adopted its current name in 2007.
