About Purpose on the Planet Foundation
Based in Staunton, Purpose on the Planet Foundation is a nonprofit focused on environmental conservation and poverty alleviation. Its community-based "Recruit & Restore" programs create work and income for vulnerable villagers in Madagascar and Tanzania through large-scale tree planting and long-term forest conservation. Projects also support landscape restoration and climate resilience. Donations to the ReWrite Our Story initiative fund workdays, tree planting and protection, and educational materials on low-carbon choices. Monthly donations support additional tree planting. The foundation reports that its programs have operated since 2012 and are designed to address poverty and environmental decline together. Its restoration work takes place at biodiversity hotspots, with a focus on capturing carbon and improving livelihoods.
