In Seattle, Leif Erikson Plaza is a memorial site associated with the Leif Erikson International Foundation, a nonprofit focused on education about Leif Erikson and Scandinavian culture. The plaza features a statue and a tribute to Scandinavian immigration at Shilshole. The foundation shares historical material about the statue, Leif Erikson, and Scandinavian connections in the United States, along with a list of 2,411 names and a way to submit a name. It also provides educational resources such as timelines, historical accounts, and information about the statue's dedication. The foundation promotes Leif Erikson as the first recorded European to come to America and works to build connections between Scandinavians and Americans. A memorial plaque unveiling is also announced for the plaza.
