Aikido practice
Partner-based movement focused on blending and redirection.
Aikido classes offer partner-based martial arts practice rooted in a noncompetitive approach to self-defense. Training uses fluid, spiral movements to blend with and redirect an attacker's energy, with an emphasis on relaxation, centering, and protecting the other person from injury. The dojo welcomes all experience levels, including visiting aikidoists who complete a form in advance. Practice can include exercise, graceful movement, meditation, and study of aikido's philosophy. A free one-day introductory class for women, taught by women, is also described on the site. The dojo is located on Castro Street in San Francisco. Its community includes practitioners with a range of experience and is committed to self-reflection, listening, and building an equitable dojo.
