About Children's Book Project
In San Francisco, Children's Book Project is a nonprofit community service organization providing free books to children from under-resourced communities. Its Book Bank accepts donated titles, distributes books to children and the people who work with them, and welcomes volunteers by appointment. The organization supports literacy, learning, and access to engaging, diverse, and multilingual reading materials. Community members can donate books, organize children's book drives, give books, get books, or volunteer through scheduled Book Bank visits. Children's Book Project also offers curated reading opportunities, including a Summer Reading Wishlist, to help children continue reading beyond the school year. The organization has given away books since 1992 and serves children who may not have enough books of their own.
