Shelter to Soldier

Shelter to Soldier rescues dogs and trains them for psychiatric service, emotional support, and companionship roles. Its flagship program pairs trained rescue dogs with post-9/11 veterans facing invisible wounds. The organization also runs an Emotional Support Animal Program, a Morale Dog Program, and Canine Ambassadors, a team of certified therapy dogs and volunteer handlers offering no-cost visits to military personnel, veterans, and their families. Community outreach and educational services extend its work to military and first responder communities. Dogs are selected from local shelters and prepared for service alongside their handlers. The organization is based in San Diego.
