A 10-acre landscape inspired by Japanese garden design.
In San Diego, the Japanese Friendship Garden is a 10-acre garden and accredited museum focused on Japanese culture. Its living exhibition brings together plants and landscape elements inspired by Japanese garden design, including a cherry tree grove, koi pond, azalea and camellia gardens, and a water feature. Visitors can explore exhibits in the Exhibit Hall and attend educational programs, cultural festivals, and special events. The Activity Center and Inamori Pavilion are also part of the grounds. Programs include exhibit viewing and seasonal celebrations, while the annual Tezukuri-ichi Holiday Market showcases local crafters and artists. The garden opened to the public in 1991 as an expression of friendship between San Diego and its sister city, Yokohama.
