Write Around Portland

A nonprofit community and social service organization. Write Around Portland brings guided creative writing programs to underheard communities through partnerships with nonprofits and service providers. Sessions typically run for six to ten meetings and use activities that invite participants to write without preparation or prior experience. Participants may share their work aloud and give one another specific, positive feedback. Programs take place in settings such as shelters, prisons, hospitals, treatment centers, senior centers, schools, and other healthcare and social service locations. The organization also offers workshops, including freewriting sessions, and publishes collections of participants' writing. Volunteers can facilitate programs or support their operation. Write Around Portland has served the nonprofit community since 1999.
