Paid apprenticeships
Training programs include on-the-job work experience.
Since 2002, the Urban Technology Project has prepared underrepresented individuals for careers in technology. It is the School District of Philadelphia's I.T. Apprenticeship Program, in partnership with Launch of Philadelphia. The post-secondary workforce development program serves school district graduates, career changers, and unemployed or underemployed individuals. Paid training combines on-the-job work experience, industry certifications, and professional mentorship. Three pathways are available: a Pre-Apprenticeship Digital Service Fellows AmeriCorps Program, a Computer Support Specialists Apprenticeship, and a Software Developer Apprenticeship. Participants prepare for careers in digital media, educational technology, IT support, and software development. The program focuses on removing barriers to entry and increasing diversity in the technology field.
