Founded in 1986
Established by Tony Fisher and Deborah Cholet.
Founded in 1986, Indigo Arts presents folk art and cultural artifacts from Africa, Asia, and the Americas. The Philadelphia gallery offers antiques, one-of-a-kind objects from traditional cultures, and contemporary and folk art. Its collection includes paintings, prints, textiles, baskets, sculptures, masks, and Haitian Vodou flags. Exhibitions have featured subjects such as contemporary Mayan art, Cuban self-taught painters, Mithila art from India and Nepal, and Peruvian folk art. The gallery also offers individual works and sets for sale, including pieces by named artists and makers. Indigo Arts says it seeks to purchase directly from artists when possible and to work with cooperatives and arts organizations. Its offerings span objects and artworks from different cultural traditions and periods.
