Cosacosa Art At Large

Public art projects, community programs, and neighborhood initiatives are central to this Philadelphia nonprofit's work. COSACOSA develops artworks with city residents through direct, long-term collaboration, addressing concerns specific to local neighborhoods. Its multidisciplinary projects use art and media to support community dialogue and creative cooperation. The organization focuses on young people in some of Philadelphia's most challenged neighborhoods and promotes participation among people of differing abilities and backgrounds. Special initiatives include the community-led Kin/Folk/Lore history project and Living/Memory, which explores local histories through stories and public artworks. In North Philadelphia, residents and COSACOSA artists created Healing and Unity Gardens with paintings, mosaics, sculptures, and plantings. The organization has worked with Philadelphia communities since 1990.
