Critical Resistance

Critical Resistance is a community and social services organization based in Oakland. It works through political education, prisoner solidarity, campaigns against imprisonment, and resistance to policing as part of an international movement to abolish the prison industrial complex. The organization builds coalitions, grassroots campaigns, community practices, skills, relationships, and resources intended to address harm and community needs at their roots. It publishes The Abolitionist, a free bilingual English and Spanish newspaper distributed to people in prisons, jails, and detention centers. Critical Resistance also hosts events, volunteer nights, workshops, presentations, and speaker requests. Its work includes Oakland and chapters in New York, Central Appalachia, Portland, and Los Angeles.
