Literacy Assistance Center

The organization provides teacher training, instructional coaching, curriculum development support, data management and analysis, and leadership support for adult education practitioners. Its work serves community-based organizations, libraries, community colleges, public school systems, and union-based training funds. It also offers professional development workshops and cohorts, along with resources on English for speakers of other languages, immigrants' rights, remote instruction, and digital literacy. The Literacy & Justice Leadership Institute gives adult education leaders a ten-month learning opportunity focused on leadership and advocacy. The Literacy & Justice Initiative connects adult literacy education with racial, social, and economic justice. Based in New York City, the center has worked since 1983 to strengthen basic education, high school equivalency, and English language programs for adults and out-of-school youth.
