American Tap Dance Foundation

A nonprofit tap dance organization. The American Tap Dance Foundation offers educational programs that teach new generations of dancers and support tap as a contemporary art form. Its work includes creating and presenting tap performances, with a history of productions that bring together choreography, musical rhythms, and individual dance styles. The foundation also preserves the artistry of early tap masters. Its predecessor, the American Tap Dance Orchestra, was founded in 1986 and developed concert works including The Gershwin Suite and Gertrude's Nose. The orchestra performed at venues and festivals such as the Apollo Theater, the Joyce Theater, and the Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors Festival. The foundation is based in New York City.
