A community music school in Nashville. Since 1984, W.O. Smith Music School has offered music instruction to children ages 8 to 18 from low-income families in the metropolitan Nashville area. Students must meet income guidelines for the USDA Free and Reduced Lunch Program. Classes and lessons cost fifty cents each. Students receive an instrument of their choosing, a volunteer teaching artist, and the musical materials needed for their studies. Teaching artists include community members, local performers, studio artists, and university students. Instruction is available Monday through Thursday from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., with Saturday classes from 9 a.m. to noon. The school is located at 1125 8th Avenue South in Nashville.
