The Simulation and Engineering for Surgical Education Lab is part of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Department of Surgery, which provides surgical education, research, and patient care. The department includes more than 130 full-time faculty across 10 divisions, along with nearly 200 additional staff. Its surgeons perform operations for pediatric and adult patients across specialties including general, cardiothoracic, colorectal, endocrine, minimally invasive, pediatric, plastic, oncology, transplant, and vascular surgery. More than 100 residents and fellows receive training each year through three residencies and eight surgical specialty fellowship programs. The department also conducts clinical and biomedical research, including work in transplantation, cancer screening, precision medicine, and age-friendly surgical care.
