Gheens Foundation Inc

Established in 1957, the Gheens Foundation supports communities through charitable grant-making. It serves metropolitan Louisville and Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes in Louisiana, with grants focused primarily on public urban education, human and social services, quality of place, and the arts. The foundation conducts an open application process, and trustees review qualifying applications. Organizations that have not applied before are asked to contact foundation staff before submitting an application. Trustees oversee approximately $8 million in grants annually, and the foundation reports distributing more than $175 million in charitable grants since its founding. Its work continues the interests of founders C. Edwin and Mary Jo Gheens in education and human services.
