LA Family School

Los Angeles Family School is a nonprofit preschool. It serves children from 18 months to 6 years old in the Silverlake neighborhood. Its emergent curriculum uses developmentally appropriate practices to encourage independence and social competence. Children explore activities and choices in four classrooms, each with an adjoining outdoor play area for year-round play. The school emphasizes problem-solving, peaceful conflict resolution, creativity, respect, and individualization. Messy play is part of the program, and children do not need to be potty-trained when they start. Families participate in school life through volunteering, including helping with fundraisers and field trips. Toddler and preschool programs run five days a week, with optional morning care and extended care listed for eligible programs. Enrollment includes an online orientation for prospective families.
