9 Million Screened
Children screened through school and childcare programs.
Vision Research Corporation has screened over 9 million children for eye problems in schools and childcare centers nationwide. Based in Homewood, the company provides large-scale vision screening programs, ranging from hundreds of children to more than 100,000. Its services cover program design, scheduling, management, implementation, and results reporting, including statewide programs in several states. Screenings use photorefraction-based systems originally developed by NASA and can be completed in a few seconds per child. The screenings identify conditions such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, differences between the eyes, eye alignment errors, and cataracts. VRC reports that about 10% of screened children show indications warranting examination by an eye doctor.
