Paid work learning
Apprentices combine classroom study with paid on-the-job training.
Electrical apprenticeship training is the core offering, combining classroom instruction with paid, work-based learning. The program prepares registered apprentices for careers as electricians and is administered and funded through a partnership between IBEW Local 553 and the Atlantic Coast Chapter of NECA. Classes and training take place at Durham Technical Community College. The JATC also provides upgrade training for journeyman electricians and works with the IBEW's Construction Electrician classification programs for people who already have experience. Training follows standards set by the National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee, with on-the-job learning opportunities included. The educational center serves the Research Triangle region, including Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill and Fayetteville.
