Audacity Labs

In Durham, Audacity Labs is an educational services organization connected with efforts to preserve African American heritage through community learning and historical documentation. Its work described here centers on the Locust Hill Cemetery Restoration Project, which combines physical restoration, digital archiving, and education. Activities include documenting oral histories and genealogical data, creating public access to burial records and photographs, and developing a museum and educational center. Volunteers, historians, students, and local families participate in clean-up drives, heritage projects, workshops, exhibitions, school programs, and memorial services. The initiative also involves civic organizations and uses environmental care practices while maintaining the cemetery. The planned museum is intended to present photographs, personal histories, and artifacts related to African American ancestry.
