El Paso County Search and Rescue

Mountain search and rescue is the core service of this volunteer organization. El Paso County Search and Rescue responds primarily in El Paso County, Colorado, under the authority of the county sheriff, and can assist other areas through cooperative arrangements. Its volunteers search for people who are missing, lost, or overdue, and provide rescue or medical assistance. The team also responds to incidents involving missing aircraft, balloons, or gliders. Mountain safety education is another offering, including information and lectures for individuals and groups. Members train in mountaineering, search and rescue techniques, and emergency medical care; most are certified Emergency Medical Responders, and many are Emergency Medical Technicians. Service is available year-round, 24 hours a day, at no charge.
