WALKS Wound Centers

In Chicago's West Side, WALKS Wound Centers is a medical center focused on outpatient wound care. Since 2007, it has treated conditions including diabetic wounds, varicose ulcers, lower-extremity wounds, body sores, neuropathy, gangrene, wound drainage, varicose veins, and decubitus ulcers. Care is delivered by a multidisciplinary team that includes vascular, plastic and reconstructive, orthopedic, general, and rear foot reconstructive surgeons, along with infectious disease, diabetes education, nutrition, and podiatry providers. Treatment may include sharp debridement, advanced dressings, bioengineered tissue, PRP therapy, specialized shoes, offloading devices, rotational muscle flaps, and blood flow studies using arterial and venous ultrasound. Individualized care plans also incorporate diabetic education and nutrition counseling.
