Literature Discussions
Guided discussions use literary works to develop critical thinking.
Reading Between the Lines® uses guided discussions of thought-provoking literature to support incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals. Its sessions focus on critical thinking, communication, self-reflection, and cognitive behavioral transformation as participants prepare for successful reentry and community engagement. The program has engaged 1,634 participants and facilitated 638 sessions since its inception, with activities conducted across five partner sites. Participants read literary works, including poetry, and may develop into facilitators who guide others. The organization also provides ways to get involved through volunteering, donations, partnerships, and foundation support. Reading Between the Lines® works with individuals inside correctional settings and those returning to their communities, using dialogue and literature as tools for personal development.
