About Tesserae Studios
Tesserae Studios is a nonprofit art studio, gallery, and event space in Chicago's Edgebrook neighborhood. It offers open studio activities for ages five and up, including mosaics, painting, drawing, and mixed media. Monday oil painting classes accommodate novice and skilled participants, while the After School Art Club provides hands-on multimedia instruction for children ages six to twelve. Friday Night Jam invites visitors to sing, play instruments, or use karaoke. The studio also hosts Bottles & Brushes, birthday parties, art parties, workshops, and private or semi-private events. Visitors can socialize, play games, appreciate art, and purchase artwork or handcrafted items. Founded as a place for Benjamin J. Durst to create and sell art, Tesserae supports individuals with special needs through creative, educational, and community activities.
