Taylor Street Farms

Urban community gardening is the core offering at Taylor Street Farms. The all-volunteer organization maintains more than 70 raised-bed plots for growing small amounts of fruits and vegetables, with renters agreeing to use organic methods without pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. A few plots support food shelters, and produce is donated during the growing season rather than sold. The garden also includes floral borders, native prairie plantings, a picnic area, community tool shed, and an apiary with pollinating bees. Community outreach includes social and educational events focused on ecological benefits, stewardship, and eco-friendly gardening. Taylor Street Farms is located on Chicago's Near West Side, behind the Little Italy Branch of the Chicago Public Library.
